MONROE, Lucy (1907-87)
Signed Program
This popular soprano from the early days of radio sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" at so many World War Two bond rallies that one wit quipped she should be admitted as the 49th state in the union. Signed Program, 8vo (5½" X 8½"), 4pp, n.p. n.y. [27 November 1939 typed at top]. Very good. Light edgewear, original light folds and faint mounting traces on middle third of rear wrapper. A clean and nice program on light orange stock for Monroe's appearance at the "Community Concert Association," listing a lengthy program that includes songs by Handel, Haydn, Debussy, Faure, Gounod, Puccini and a few others. Monroe signs boldly in blue ink in a blank are at upper left. Her accompanist, well-known pianist Frederick Bristol (1897-1974), also signs boldly in ink beneath her. Inner page (2) contains a biography of Monroe and "Annotations" (pp. 3 and 4) for each composition played. .
